20 "Inspirational" Audition Quotes That Are Entirely Too Real

Feb 18, 2019

Audition season can be tough.

Sometimes you just need a meme-able burst of inspiration to keep pounding the pavement in those tattered LaDucas!

So these are for you, all my Broadway dreamers!!!

WE GOT THIS!!!!!!!!

1. Not to get biblical right away, but these first two quotes always remind me of Matthew 7:7. "Ask, and it shall be given to you..."

“They’re asking for a STRICT 16.” -The Monitor www.auditionrepmatchmaker.com

2. "Seek, and ye shall find."

“Where’s the end of the line?” -EPA latecomer www.auditionrepmatchmaker.com

3. So, go ahead and ask for what you need!

“Is there any way someone could switch to a later number? I have babysitting at 3. I’d seriously be sooooooo grateful.” -#137 at the ECC www.auditionrepmatchmaker.com

4. A reminder that the answer you're looking for may be right in front of you.

“I mean, technically it’s 24 bars, but it really moves!” -Person in front of you at the ECC www.auditionrepmatchmaker.com

5. Or it could come from the most unlikely place!

“What’s this line for? The new iPhone?” -8th Ave Pedestrian www.auditionrepmatchmaker.com

6. So, don't be afraid to put yourself out there to the community.

“Can we all just agree not to start the list before 5am?” SN: WishfulThinker93 www.auditionrepmatchmaker.com

7. And never hesitate to look to your elders for wisdom.

“How are tryouts going?” -Dad www.auditionrepmatchmaker.com

8. They challenge us to ask the important questions.

“Did you hear back from that place you had the callback?!” -Mom www.auditionrepmatchmaker.com

9. This quote gets misattributed a lot, but I believe it was either Uta Hagen or Ben Franklin who said it first.

“They’d like me to emphasize ‘No Musical Theatre’.” -The Monitor www.auditionrepmatchmaker.com

10. For when you need to really OWN it.

“BBrrrrbBBBBRRBBBR! Thaaaaat’s mine.” -Woman Warming up in Changing Room www.auditionrepmatchmaker.com

11. When you need a reminder that sometimes, it's okay to say "No."

“They will NOT be accepting drop-offs.” - The Monitor www.auditionrepmatchmaker.com

12. Because self-care is...

Holding Room Hacks: How to Keep Your Cool and Not be a Jerk

Oct 14, 2018

Alright, folks.

I know we spend a lot of time talking about how to be our best selves in the audition room, but I think it’s time we back it up a step and talk about…

The Holding Room.

You close your eyes and take in the sweet sounds of nature:

  • The man furiously muttering his monologue to himself
  • The belter “That’s Mine, THAAAAAAT’S MINE”-ing to the heavens
  • The gaggle of recent college grads loudly discussing the callbacks they have this week and the fact that they heard this show is already cast

Just when you think you can take no more, another sound pricks your ears…

I'm sorry, but you just can't convince me that I, Sara Glancy, need a Gilbert and Sullivan song in my book.

But you know what I do need?

Waaaaaaay more than 1 pop-rock song.

That one-size-fits all model DOES NOT FIT ME.

And I'm guessing it doesn't fit you either.

Which is why I created....

It's a free workbook that will help you determine what song categories YOU specifically need to have in your audition book.

You're a different actor than your...
